On 28 May, the 127th anniversary of the proclamation of indepen­dence of the Philippine Republic was celebrated. This was commemorated in the Klooster­kerk in The Hague with a beautiful musical eve­ning featu­ring musical contributions by Diomedes Saraza Jr. (violin), Shermaine Velasco (piano), who lives in the Netherlands, baritone Cipriano De Guzmán Jr., who lives in Lu­xem­bourg, and...

...the ambassador himself, J. Eduardo Malaya, who is a talented pianist. Many guests from the Philippine community - I met several of them from Hoofd­dorp - and diplomatic circles attended the celebration. It was a won­derful eve­ning and an opportunity to meet people.

I warmly congratulate the Philippine community, which is also strongly represented in our diocese, on this Indepen­dence Day!
