Onlangs had ik een interview met Edgar Beltrán van The Pillar, een website met nieuws en verdieping over de katholieke kerk. Het is een gesprek over de situatie van de kerk in ons land, de weg naar de toekomst, de christelijke hoop en de kern van ons geloof. Zaterdag 20 januari heb ik een bezoek gebracht aan het internationaal studentenpastoraat in Amsterdam. De voertaal was Engels, maar de studenten kwamen uit allerlei landen, waaronder ook Nederland, Ecuador, Italië, Kroatië, Brazilië, Polen, Syrië, Egypte. Zowel in de heilige Mis als in de ontmoeting daarna, ging het over roeping. Wat is roeping? Heeft iedereen een roeping? Hoe weet je wat je roeping is?

On saturday the 4^th of november the charismatic catholic Phillipino community of El Shaddai celebrated its anniversary, with a joyous celebration in the Vredeskerk, where they have their H. Mass on sundays. We reflected on the gospel of this liturgical day, where Jesus a little parable about taking the lowest place.

De Stichting Verbiest uit Leuven heeft een bezoek van een delegatie van Chinese bisschoppen georganiseerd, mede ter voorbereiding op een grotere conferentie die men volgend jaar rond deze tijd wil houden. Vier Chinese bisschoppen en een priester van een vijfde bisdom zijn enkele dagen te gast in België, Nederland en Frankrijk. 11-12 september waren zij in ons bisdom.

On sunday the 3^rd of September I visited the Blessed Trinity parish in Amsterdam. Before and after Mass I met with parishioners and I had a meeting with the parish board and discussed with them problems and challenges.

El Shaddai celebrated its 27^th anniversary on the 5^th of november in Vredeskerk (Our Lady Queen of Peace). For the first time after Covid everything looked "normal", like before the pandemic. Guests from abroad and from the Netherlands were present to join in the celebration. The Massreadings touched an important topic, especially for our times: What is the impact of (Lack of) money and wealth?

Zondagmiddag 28 augustus was ik in het Bijlmer Sportcentrum in Amsterdam voor de Eucharistieviering met de honderden jongeren van Sant' Egidio die naar Amsterdam waren gekomen voor de internationale ontmoeting van Youth for Peace. In de H. Titus Brandsmakerk in Amstelveen werd zaterdag 2 juli het jaarfeest van de Syro-Malabaarse gemeenschap gevierd met als hoofdcelebrant bis­schop Remigiose Inchananiyil van het bisdom Thamarassery. Bij deze gelegenheid heb ik de homilie gehouden.

On sunday the 24th of april we celebrated the Divine Mercy Feast in our cathedral with the English speaking community. It was organised by the Divine Mercy Apostolate Holland and the Filippino-English community of Laren, but there were faithful from all parts of the country. It was nice to celebrate this beautiful occasion again with so many people!

On saturday the 21^th of November El Shaddai chapter Amsterdam celebrated its 25th anniversary. It was announced last year as a beautiful, big and festive celebration, with guests from different countries. Brother Mike Velarde, founder and servant-leader of El Shaddai world wide was supposed to come from the Philippines for the celebration in Amsterdam. But unfortunately, like so many other occasions, Covid-19 changed everything...

On the Solemnity of the most holy Trinity I celebrated an English Mass for El Shaddai community. It was their last celebration in the cathedral church, where they moved to so that they could have live streamed Masses. Now they are moving back to Amsterdam. At the beginning of the homily I expressed my gratitude for the many good wishes conveyed at the occasion of my start as a bishop of the diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam.

The gospel of the 6th Sunday of Easter is about love and the commandments of the Lord. In the cathedral church I celebrated holy Mass in English, prepared by El Shaddai community. Fr. Ruben Torres, spiritual leader of the community concelebrated.

On sunday the 3^rd of May we had an English live-stream Mass from our cathedral church, prepared by El Shaddai community (Amsterdam chapter). One of the seminarians, Juan Ignacio, told us how the Lord accompanied him and called him to the priesthood.

On the sollemnity of Christ the King, at the 24th of november, I visited the 'Couples for Christ' community and administerd holy confirmation to eight candidates, all around the age of fifteen, sixteen, except one.

El Shaddai is an international catholic charismatic community, widespread in the world and present in our diocese in Amsterdam and Amstelveen. The annual celebration in Amsterdam is every year a beautiful day of prayer, reflection, meeting each other and of course the Eucharistic celebration. This year the 24th anniversary was celebrated and we prepare for the silver jubilee next year on the 22d of november.

We celebrate the Divine Mercy feast on the second sunday of Easter, this year on the 28th of april. In the cathedral church this feast was organized by the Divine Mercy Apostolate Holland together with the Filippino Catholic Community in The Hague. Before the holy Mass started, the image of Divine Mercy, colocated in one of the lateral chapels of the Cathedral church, was blessed. We prayed for the victims of the attacks in Sri lanka. Why God permitted this?

In Amsterdam is op zaterdag 6 april herdacht dat vijf jaar geleden pater Frans van der Lugt werd vermoord in het Jezuïetenhuis in Homs. Hij bleef in de stad, bij zijn mensen, ondanks de oorlogssituatie, wetend van het gevaar. Zij leven was gewijd aan het bij elkaar brengen van mensen en tot eenheid brengen en er zijn voor de zwaksten in de samenleving.

Sunday 18 november I visited All Saint’s parish in Am­ster­dam South East (Bijlmer). We celebrated the Holy Eucharist, a beautiful and joyous celebration, and blessed and opened officially the soupkitchen the parish started on fridays. Worldday of the poor was celebrated today and our special prayer was requested for the migrants, many of them who died on their way to Europe or other continents.

Every year the charismatic catholic El Shaddai community of Amsterdam celebrates its anniversary with a beautiful celebration in Vredeskerk, where they have their normal sunday-celebrations as well. I was there to celebrate Holy Mass with them and share in the joy that our catholic faith brings to our hearts.

Wat hebben de All Saints parochie in Amsterdam Zuid Oost, de St. Jozefkerk in Velsen Noord en de H. Engelmundus in Driehuis gemeen? Ze hebben alle drie een pastoor die uit India afkomstig is. Waarin verschillen ze? All Saints heeft een nieuwe kerk, pas geopend, en bruist van leven, “a vibrant community”, de beide anderen bestaan al lang en hebben met teruggang te maken.

The 2^nd Sunday of Easter was named Sunday of the Divine Mercy by saint pope John Paul II. We celebrated a beautiful Divine mercy-feast in the Cathedral basilica of St. Bavo in Haarlem, organised by the Divine Mercy Apostolate and attended by many English speaking Faithful

Donderdag 6 april was ik in Woerden bij de lancering van een community voor wie als ouders betrokken zijn bij katholieke scholen. Dit project vanuit Verus wil het gesprek tussen school en ouders stimuleren want dat is belangrijk voor katholiek onderwijs.

On Sunday the 26th of february a new church was dedicated with sollemn rite in the South East of Amsterdam. All Saints’ quasi parish is a vibrant African Roman Catholic community and showed itself to be so at this beautiful occasion.

On saturday the 5^th of November I visited the parishchurch of ‘O.L. Vrouw Koningin van de Vrede’ in Amsterdam where El Shaddai was celebrating its 21^th anniversary. This catholic charismatic community counts its members mostly among the Philippine people and is spread over the whole world, present in many countries.

Radboud University organised a conference on the current challenges and opportunities in catholic education and religious education in catholic schools, which took place in Soeterbeeck, a conference centre of the University near Ravenstein. At the start of this conference I was to read a personal message sent by Archbishop Angelo Vincenzo Zani.

On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit was pouring out His gifts in Amsterdam as well. 22 candidates of All Saints parish received the sacrament of Confirmation during a joyful celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

Wanneer een priester, diaken of kerkelijk medewerker wordt beschuldigd van seksueel misbruik of van een ander misdrijf (delict) en die beschuldiging tenminste schijn van waarheid, enige waarschijnlijkheid (“saltem veri similem”) bezit, moeten soms in een vroeg stadium bepaalde maatregelen worden genomen om herhaling of voortzetting van de ernstige, strafbare feiten te voorkomen. Deze maatregelen kunnen worden genomen als voorzorgsmaatregelen in het kader van een kerkelijk strafproces (c. 1722)

This year the Divine Mercy feast was celebrated in English in the cathedral basilica of Saint Bavo in Haarlem, while a dutch Divine mercy celebration with bishop Punt was held in the shrine of Heiloo.

Aan de Radboud-universiteit werd enkele dagen voor de vijftigste verschijnings-verjaardag van Gaudium et Spes een symposium gehouden om dit bijzondere feit te herdenken. Hieronder de lezing die ik bij deze gelegenheid heb gehouden.

Zondag 19 oktober wordt de buiten­gewone bisschoppen­synode in zekere zin afge­sloten met de zalig­ver­klaring van paus Paulus VI. Volgend jaar zal met het thema van huwelijk en gezin worden verder gegaan in een ‘gewone bisschoppen­synode’, nadat eerder al een consis­torie - een vergade­ring van de kardinalen - over dit onder­werp was gehouden. De synode heeft een slot­bood­schap uitge­bracht en kardinaal Eijk heeft over zijn ervaringen gesproken. De synode en de paus, zo onder­streepte hij, hebben geen verandering van de leer voor ogen.

Op 28 augustus vierden we het feest van de heilige Augustinus. Hij leefde in het oosten van Algerije in een tijd dat de spreekwoordelijk verwoestende Vandalen over Noord Afrika kwamen. Na een korte periode van rust daarna, waarin de Kerk overeind probeerde te krabbelen, kwamen de Moslims. Alleen ruïnes onder het woestijnzand getuigen nu van het christelijk verleden van die streken. Wat nu gebeurt in Syrië en Irak doet denken aan die tijd. Honderdduizenden christenen zijn gedood of slaan op de vlucht.

Op de derde zondag van de Advent was ik voor de heilige Eucharistie bij de All Saints om het decreet van de Bisschop voor te lezen waarmee deze Engelstalige gemeenschap werd opgericht als “quasi-parochie”, missie voor de west-afrikaanse gemeenschap in ons bisdom. Het decreet werd met vreugde ontvangen, want deze (quasi-) parochie heeft daarmee de mogelijkheid gekregen om een eigen kerkgebouw te kopen.
